My child’s withdrawal symptom (from the thumb-sucking addiction) was literally a nightmare. For the subsequent days, she would wake up in the middle of the night and cried and threw tantrum for about 2 hours each night.

Meanwhile, I hid her favorite bolster cover that was supposed to be in the wash in a place where nobody knows except me.

So once I started to sleep next to my child, I was fully aware of when and how often my child sucked her thumb. I realized that because my child was a very light sleeper, every slightest sound would wake her up, and she would suck her thumb to go back to sleep.
