Allowance for Kids - Are we teaching them the right relationship with money? This did not occur to me until I started to reflect on my own relationship with money.
I wanted to share this because it was not until recently that I realize my own thoughts about money was not right. I was told that money was hard earned; money doesn’t grow on trees, there is no such thing as easy money, otherwise, its illegal. But, the rich doesn’t think like that. Paris Hilton would never think that earning money would be hard.
I then realize that part of why I thought like that was because of begin given allowance that what my parents thought me.
You see, they wanted me to know the value of money, so they wanted me to save. They wanted me to work hard for my money and understand the ‘true’ value of money. I must say, they did a pretty good job because I learnt all that.
I want my kids to work hard, but not because they would think that its the only way to earn money. I think that’s just wrong. working hard does not equat to being rich or getting money. We need to be smart about it.
I think we need to teach kids a right relationship with money. Easy but definitely not happiness or most important.
