My Toddler 2 year old - A Lady in making is my entry today. I realize that when they reached this age, they are the most difficult yet it is the best time to have them around.
This is a transitional period and everyday is a new discovery. They are facinated at anything and everything. The best part is that they surprise you with their abilities everyday. I get that “mommy, look, I can do this”, “daddy, check this out!” . At the end of everynight, our main discussion is what my darling is capable of doing. My 2 year old, loves to dress up and show off too. They are so cute. These are the good times.
On the other side of the coin, there is a reason why people say “the terrible twos”
Here is my take on it.
1. Sometimes their speech ability preceeds their understanding. so, while we feel they are matured, their understanding may seem very unreasonable to us.
2. During growth spurts, (which may last for 2 weeks at once), hormones are involved in the development. I believe that toddlers are extremely uncomfortable and cracky due to this. Drinking plenty of water and getting enough sleep really helps in this instances. Since cell generation is required for growth, the children really need the sleep to facilitate the growth.
3.This is the time to also show them “who’s in charge”. Don’t be afraid to discipline them, but do it with love. Disciplining children will make them love you more, not hate you.
