Whining Kids - Turn Whining to Winning!

Whining kids - Seems like there is one in every household?
I often get asked how do I deal with whining kids. You know especially ones that you can never please? Give them an ice-cream and they badger you for two? Always making their baby sister cry or irritating their big siblings? I know the feeling. Our house use to have not 1 but 2 of them and the bigger problem was that this “problem” is contagious. If not taken care, will spread like wild fire.
Remedy? - Well, when I realized that I too was in a way, a “whining” kid, I then realize I could actually help turn them around. Let me elaborate. You see… For the longest time, I have been working to achieve my financial goals… I keep thinking, when I am there, I will be happy, I will be able to relax, I will be less impatient, more forgiving and a better person all round. Well, I am half way there to my financial goal but I haven’t really started on my journey to happiness because I did not start. I did not practice. I figured, if I am half way there I should be at least half happier, half everything but that is not true. I am only half richer.
So, The key to turn whining kids to winning kids?
1. Count your blessings! Literally.
I force my children to verbalize how they are being blessed. If you’re religious, Thank God out loud every night. make it part of your nightly devotion.
2. Verbalize your happiness at any given chance. When you hear it , you’ll believe it. Make them say, I am happy today because…
3. Highlight their accomplishments. Remember, don’t be embarrass to boast about your children. If you’re not their greatest cheerleaders, who then? - More importantly, tell it to them!
4. Focus on their positive behaviour. Tell it to the family. Make your other children recognize what behaviour you’re looking for.

Remember, it’s a decision to be happy, to have joy. Practice makes Perfect… Practice makes permanent!
