Family vacation trips - 6 strategies to have fun and memorable ones

Going on family vacation trips with young children is definitely very different from vacations with adults. There are certain things that you need to consider in order for the vacation to not turn into a nightmare. Here are 6 things that you need to take into consideration while doing family vacation planning:

1.    Choose a destination that is relaxing and children friendly. Guided tours are definitely a no-no, as the tour schedules tend to be very tight. It’s a family vacation, so have your children’s interest in mind when choosing a destination. Try not to choose a destination with lots of hiking or endless walking involved in order to do sight seeing.
2.    Plan for a short trip of not more than 7 days. I find that young children can’t really cope with holidays that are more than 7 days. They become restless, home sick and over tired.
3.    Plan your sight-seeing so that you can go back to the hotel for an afternoon nap. This means that you should plan for sight-seeing durations that are about 3-4 hours each. Sight-seeing durations that are too long will tire the young children, and you definitely don’t want cranky children while you’re trying to have some fun. Remember that the whole objective is to have fun and rejuvenate when you go on a vacation. So it doesn’t matter if you have to forgo certain sight-seeing places if it means not getting all the family members stressed out.
4.    Take the weather into account. Avoid going for family vacation during winter, as you have limited things to do, and it is harder to get around, especially with young children. Remember, you’ll be outside most of the time during sight-seeing. Just getting all your young children dressed before you go out every time will be a pain.
5.    Avoid visiting places that are too crowded. In any case, get a safety harness baby leash, it is definitely very useful to avoid losing your children in an unfamiliar place.
6.    Choose a comfortable hotel, with sufficient amenities. When you have young children while on a vacation, the hotel that you stay in during your vacation becomes more important than a holiday with just adults. This is because you’ll spend more time in the hotel, and don’t be surprised when your children tell you that the best part about the holiday is the hotel stay. If you can, get hotels or resorts that are by the beach, and you will definitely have a good and stress free family vacation.
