Baby Sleeping Problems - Nocturnal Babies

One of the most torturous thing about being a parent ishaving sleepless nights due to the nocturnal nature of some babies.  I remember one of the things that my mom told me shortly after I had my first child was that the day your child was born is the last day you had a good night’s sleep.  She went on to say that both mom and dad never stop worrying about their children.  Now less philosophical and more practical.  How do we deal with those little ones who refuse to sleep? How do we deal with baby sleeping problems?

Here are some tips which I found useful

1. Make sure you do not over excite them during the day - this could be overly eager grandparents, neighbors, the television, friends etc  Its a sure recipe for nightmare

2. Do not overfeed your baby-  Most of the time,  it is a misconception that your baby needs more food to keep him asleep for the whole night.  Come on,  how well do we sleep on a full stomach.

3. Make sure they are bundled warmly.  Not too warm though.

4. Watch their diet.  Some children are more sensitive than others.  If your child is having interrupted sleep all the time,  this could be a reason.  Candies? Caffeinated Chocolates? Fried Food

5.  If you’re breastfeeding… what about your diet?  Drinking?

6.  Is the baby fussy because of wind in the stomach?

I’l write some more in the next few days
