I didn’t read any books or consult and experts on how to toilet train children, but just did it based on common sense and some advice from the old folks. I find that the success of toilet training is based on how much effort we are able to put in, and the character of the child.
Normally, for the first child, parents have more time and energy to toilet train them, therefore, they tend to be toilet trained earlier. However, for subsequent children, the parents are too busy trying to take care of all the children at the same time that it is very hard to put too much effort in toilet training the younger ones. Also, like I mentioned, some children are more particular with cleanliness and they will tend to toilet train themselves better than others who couldn’t care less about wearing their urine or stools all the time.
Some children are also very caught up with their toys or whatever they are doing that they tend to forget about going to the toilet. In any case, I feel that toilet training should come naturally and should not be too rigid. However, being on the other end of the scale where we don’t toilet train the child at all is also not right. A lot of encouragement and praise goes a long way, and these do not require a lot of energy and time.
