Stress free potty training

By the time we had our third child, we were too tired and too lack of sleep to consistently toilet train her, even when she was 6 months old.

She is definitely later than her older siblings. When she turned 1 year old, she still couldn’t indicate when she wanted to pass stools, because we didn’t make her sit on her potty every morning or every night. We didn’t make her sit on her potty every time she woke up from her nap or sleep either. We were just too busy and too tired to toilet train her.

However, by the time she was 14 months, she started to indicate to us when she wants to pass stools by herself. She could speak a little by this time, so sometimes she would say it, and sometimes she would indicate by pointing. By that time, when we did put her on the pot, she would pee most of the time too.

So, I conclude that there is no need for parents to be too stressed out or concerned about potty training. They should let it go naturally without putting too much stress or burden on the child. Parents should try to potty train as early as possible consistently, but if they can’t, they shouldn’t feel guilty. The child will potty train by himself somehow, if we create some kind of awareness, and give lots of praises.
