Working from home sounds good to people that haven’t done it before. But is it really as good as it sounds? Well, I think it depends on your personality and how well you manage it. Like I said, I went through some adjustment periods when I started to work from home. Initially, I was stressed out most of the time. I shouted at my children when they disturbed me, especially when I have to rush for a project dateline. It really made me wonder is working from home really good for me and my children. Is it good for my children’s relationship with me? Will my children end up seeing a stressed out mom most of the time? Is it better to have a mother that is absent and out working, or a mother that is working at home but stressed out with them at the same time? After these initial questions that I asked myself, I then had some more positive thoughts.
I asked myself if I can find ways to make things better while working at home? What are the things that I could do to make it a pleasant experience for both me and my children? What are the things that they could do by themselves without my assistance? How could I keep them occupied without involving me while I work? I began to recall what are some of the methods that kindergarten and sunday school teachers use to make the children manageable. Could I apply some of those techniques? I then developed a routine that worked for my children and myself, which I will talk about in my next post.
