INTRODUCTION
Eight month old marks the start of
baby food and all the perils of baby food storage. It is important to give
baby a good head start in life. Diet is extremely important. Equally
important is baby food storage, How do we maintain the freshest food as
babies that age have extremely sensitive stomach.
BABY FOOD- BEGIN WITH
CHOPPED FOOD
Between 8 and 12 months (depending on what your doctor says),
introduce chopped foods to your baby same gradual way you did solids. Baby will accept
chopped foods more readily at this age. Later he may reject the "lumps"
The makers of strained baby foods also have a line of chopped ones in many
appetizing combinations. Or chop mash with a fork, fruits and vegetables you
serve the family.
Take the baby's portion out before seasoning to adult taste for he requires only
about half as much salt and sugar a should have no spices at all. The vegetables
in canned vegetable soup are also the proper size and soft enough for baby.
Add a small amount of a chopped food to a serving strained, preferably a
strained food which your baby particularly likes. Gradually increase the chopped
food, until t baby's taking his whole serving in this form. Then do the same with
another food.
Until he's about 3 years old, chop or grind the meat you give your youngster.
Broiled hamburger or meat loaf that's highly seasoned is satisfactory. Soft,
mealy lunch meats also a good choice.
Or you can buy the excellently prepared diced meats for juniors which come in
several varieties suitable at this age. this form, he'll eat it better, and
you'll avoid the danger having a chunk of meat breathed into his windpipe. Stringy meats, hard to firm vegetables, and fruits with peels for the same
reason.
At this age, the baby will enjoy feeding himself. Give. baby the freedom to
enjoy touching, tasting, and handling food. At nine months, let him hold a spoon
and teach him use it in spite of the messiness. Observe his hand preference Let him
use whichever hand he wishes.
If you're busy, put a small amount of finger food on a s plate or his high-chair
tray and he'll be content feeding hi self. The small amount is important,
because whatever you give him will be divided into three parts—one-third will go
in him, one-third on him, and the remaining one-third will land on the floor.
Newspapers under his chair will cut down on the cleanup job.
Baby Food Storage
It is essential to make sure that
your baby's food stays fresh when it is consumed. As far as possible, try
to cook it just before it is consumed. That way, you may not need to
store the food in any manner. However, if this is not possible, try
to keep it in a warmer. Before you keep the food make sure it is boiling
well and fully cooked. If you are preparing raw food, keep it in an air
tight container. Do not keep the food for more than 3 to 4 hours.
Do not microwave the food for baby.
The effects of microwave is still relatively unknown and could potentially be
harmful. |
