Baby Playpen & Baby Bed Safety

TIME TO CHANGE BEDS

Baby will soon outgrow his bassinet; now is the time to shop for a regular baby bed.   The number one factor to consider when moving him out from a small crib to a bed is: baby bed safety.  Make sure that the height of the bed is adjustable, Make sure that there are railings attached to the sides of the bed.  There are also portable bed rails specially customized for babies.  Also, select one that's at least large enough for a 4-year-old. It will last as long as the baby bed is needed, and there'll be plenty of room for him to stretch and exercise.

If you have limited bedroom space, and it's necessary for the baby to sleep in your room during the day, consider buying a portable crib so that it can be moved around.  A small portable crib can be used until the baby is about two years old.
You may continue to use the bassinet for his waking hours or for short naps, but he'll need a bed for long naps. A bassinet is fine for airings on the porch or under a tree after he's outgrown it as a bed. If insects are a problem during the summer months, put a mosquito netting over the bassinet.

BABY'S GETTING ADVENTUROUS

At three months Baby's muscles are growing much stronger and larger, and she'll be able to move  freely.
Although it shows good physical development if he does roll over or start scooting, it's a signal to you that he can no longer be left alone on his bath table or your big bed because he could potentially roll of the bed.  Never think that you just walk away for 30 seconds to grab a diaper or her water bottle.  Babies can roll pretty fast.  Avoid leaving him alone,  again, otherwise, get a bed rail.
And, when you hold him in your lap, don't restrict his movements, but do be sure he can't wiggle away from you.

BABY PLAYPEN

Three months is a good age at which to begin baby playpen periods. At this age, the baby is beginning to enjoy being in the family circle and, if he gets accustomed to his pen at this early age, he won't object to being put in it when he's older.

There are several types on the market. One model has a platform raised a few inches above the floor. This places baby. above floor drafts indoors, and above damp or cold at mind outdoors. A collapsible type is also very convenient for moving in and out of doors. The collapsible playpens with steel frame and mesh sides are very lightweight and sturdy. You should have a waterproof pad for his pen. There are a variety made from an assortment of material.  Choose one that has been approved by a safety standard body.

PLAYPENS SHOULD HAVE TOYS

When Baby begins reaching for things and trying to grasp them, it's time to place one or two toys within his reach—a rattle, or a bright-colored cotton doll which he can easily hold. Hang toys on strings to the sides of his playpen, so he can hit at them whenever he wants. Skip the stuffed or wool toys. Select toys that move or react to baby's movements. Do not stack up toys in the playpen.  Baby could potentially climb on the toys. This could be dangerous for her.
